Stockings are where clutter sneaks in: tiny plastic toys, novelty gadgets, things nobody asked for. In our house, I try to fill the grown-ups' stockings with small things that get used every single day instead.
Here are my favourite useful stocking stuffers under $25, most of them plastic-free.
Under $15
- Plant-Based Stain Remover Stick ($5). A solid stain stick for grass, food and grubby collars.
- Beeswax Food Wraps, 3-pack ($12.99). A washable alternative to plastic wrap in three sizes.
- Natural Laundry Stain Remover Bar ($12.99). For every parent who deals with grass, food and grubby collars.
$15 to $25
- Swedish Dishcloths, 6-pack ($16). Enough for the kitchen and the bathroom.
- Glass + Mirror Cleaner Spray Kit (from $20). A refillable glass bottle and tablets you dissolve in water. Made in Canada.
- Laundry Detergent Sheets ($21). Light, mess-free laundry with no plastic jug.
- Wool Dryer Balls ($22). A reusable swap for single-use dryer sheets.
- Ganong Red Wrap Tea Towel ($22). Organic cotton and a sweet nod to a Maritime Christmas tradition.
How to make a small gift feel special
- Bundle by theme. Beeswax wraps, Swedish dishcloths and a stain remover stick make a little "calm kitchen" set for about $34.
- Wrap it simply. Kraft paper and twine, or roll a tea towel around a small gift instead of paper.
- Add a line. "For your Sunday baking" or "For fewer paper towels in 2027" turns a practical gift into a thoughtful one.
